The Coastal Way — Cardigan Bay at a Relaxed Pace
This is Wales with the windows down and the sea beside you. Clifftops open to a horizon of Atlantic blue; harbours glow with pastel houses and the clink of rigging. Long beaches give way to dunes and headlands where dolphins arc in silver light. Villages appear around a bend with a bakery, a quay and stories etched into castle walls. It’s the kind of journey that asks you to slow, wander and let the coastline set the rhythm.
Start among the coves and fishing slips of the Llŷn Peninsula, trace the sweep of the Mawddach and Dyfi estuaries, drift south past Aberystwyth and Aberaeron, then follow the pocket bays of Ceredigion into the wild headlands of Pembrokeshire. Each day balances short, scenic drives with time out of the car for walks, viewpoints, galleries, gardens and easy moments on the sand.
Distances and times are approximate and exclude stops. Coastal lanes can be narrow; allow extra time in summer and on bank holidays.
